Our last snowfall happened a few short weeks ago, and now I’m excited to announce that my natural dye season is starting! Sort of. With mail service slowed by the pandemic, some dyestuffs are still on their way. Until then, you can still scoop up kits and quilt patterns on sale in the shop, including the newest EPP kit, Prism.
Since April, I’ve been selling my mask pattern with the commitment to donate all proceeds to our local food bank. Friendly folks who have purchased my sewn masks have also generously donated to the cause. This is a rewarding experience and seeing so many of you step up to help is heart warming, to say the least.
With that, I’m thrilled to say that I’ve just made the first donation to the Food Bank of Central New York. It will put 300 meals on tables across central NY. Thank you to every person who has offered a donation or purchased my mask pattern PDF. I will continue to donate for as long as people are purchasing the mask pattern, which you can find here. Feel free to share on social media - every purchase matters!
For many months here in the studio a special new quilt design has been in the making. When it’s officially released I’ll share the whole story complete with plenty of eye candy. This is a sneak peek at one of its appliquéd motifs, a folksy sweet swallow.
The name of the quilt is Flight Of Hope, and it’s a play on words. One of the collective nouns for a group of swallows is a flight. Also, swallows symbolize hope, healing and prosperity.
I’m working hard to finish the pattern and make it available because this feels like the right time to share it. Every stitch has been made with hope. I’m wishing the same experience for you, too. Stay tuned for updates about the pattern’s release, and stay well!
It’s that time of year when foraging, dyeing and gardening dominate my time and I love it! If you saw the recipe last year for pickled spruce tips in this post but missed collecting spruce tips, this is the time to take a look in your yard! Harvest details and recipe are in the post. Packed with Vitamin C, spruce tips have a lemony flavor and are tasty in egg, chicken and tuna salads, mixed into a garden salad or garnishing baked or grilled meats! Another simple favorite is to steep four to six spruce tips in a mug filled with near-boiling water. Soothing, delicious, nutritious.
